How to Merge PDF Files: Page Order, Limits, and Result Checks

Name the files clearly and decide the final order before processing. Open each source once, confirm its page count and check whether it is encrypted, signed or form-enabled. Merging should be performed on copies when the originals are records.

What the current merge tool does

Pdfona currently uses pdf-lib in the browser tab. It creates a new PDF, loads each selected file, copies its pages in sequence and optionally inserts a blank A4 page between files. The output is a newly saved document rather than a byte-for-byte concatenation.

This behavior is verified in the current processor. It does not establish that every bookmark, attachment, layer, script, form behavior or digital signature will survive the copy.

Choose and confirm the order

Open Merge PDF, add at least two PDFs and arrange them in the intended sequence. Use the blank-page option only when a separator is useful. Download the result under a new name.

• Check the first page of every source in the combined document.
• Confirm that no file was added twice.
• Verify any intentional blank separator.

Bookmarks, links, forms and signatures

Page content is the primary item copied by the current engine. Document-level outlines, embedded files and some interactive structures may require rebuilding. An existing digital signature normally cannot certify a newly assembled document, so the merged file should be signed only after its contents are final.

Browser processing and practical limits

For this merge tool, file bytes are read by the client-side processor and the resulting Blob is produced in the browser. This statement is limited to the current tool implementation; it is not a guarantee about browser extensions, the user’s device or external links inside a document.

Large files can exceed available memory. Encrypted, damaged or unusually complex PDFs may fail to load. Reduce the batch size or repair the source before trying again.

Final verification checklist

Open the downloaded PDF in a second reader when the document matters. Compare the expected total page count, inspect boundaries between source files, search for a known phrase and test critical links or fields. Only distribute the combined copy after those checks.

• Page order matches the plan.
• Important content renders in another reader.
• Required interactive elements are tested separately.
